Recently I had the pleasure of meeting with a retailer that is interested in selling "green" or environmentally friendly furniture. This meeting caused me to go searching for information about the materials we use to build our luxury quality furniture and am quite pleased with what I found.
First our frames are made of NC Kiln Dried Maple. Maple is the perfect choice as it is a fast growing tree with tall heights providing us the long boards. Maple is the perfect combination of strength and weight - a very strong wood that is not overly heavy (better for shipping but still super durable!)
The next item on my list was the polyurethane "foam" that we use to pad the frames of our furniture and in our cushions. Our foam is CertiPUR Certified. Here's what the folks at CertiPUR say about their certification:
When you buy products containing certified foam, you can be confident that the flexible polyurethane foam inside meets CertiPUR-US®standards for content, emissions, and durability, and has been analyzed by independent, accredited testing laboratories.
While there are many great tests included in the certification, two things are especially important for our environment - our foam does not contain any ozone depleters and it is low-VOC.
So there you have it! Domestically made, luxury quality furniture that is environmentally friendly as well as being beautiful!
